It would be stupid to follow Bucky's example, anyway. He removed two people off the list, but one of them was himself. The odds are better waiting it out.

unless he was confident that he wouldn’t be found out, why not wait? and why or who even gave him this information anyway?
obviously waiting out for the competition to weed itself out, but maybe there’s a little more to it
unfortunately the guy fucking died so who knows
