[after a moment, a little apologetic:]

Oh - right. Sorry, I saw the message when I got back to my room, but I figured I could check in with you tomorrow. I'm glad we ran into each other before then, though.

Yeah, I figured what happened when you came back all— [ he gestures at the eye. ]

Guess we know we can all get a heads up here, if someone’s missing.

[there's a little nod]

Right... Something like a roll call wouldn't a bad idea.

I was able to talk to someone about the fact I couldn’t get through to you, but interestingly Aquila didn’t seem to release anyone was missing. Or maybe they just didn’t want to talk about it.

[ … ]

We could… if we’re going to start to have meetings or something sooner rather than later.

[ also me: but the sense of surprise… ]

[they will conveniently forget about this because i also want to preserve the sense of surprise it's fine]

...I'm not really sure how much we should be trusting the staff. They could have been lying, though I guess I don't really see what they'd gain from that.

[ me and eli shaking hands in convenient amnesia. ]

Oh, trust is a strong word right now. But it isn’t a given they have the kind of omniscience to just know when people are missing.

Right. Just...

[a quick glance to lup, and back to him.]

I don't know if I should get into the details right now [when there are certain people in the room], and it might have been a coincidence, but... I mentioned to one of them offhand that I was scared of something pretty specific happening, and then that exact thing happened while we were in there. It's just something to keep in mind,

You think they might have organised it?

[personal profile] agleam 2022-06-17 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's possible they at least passed on the idea to whoever they're working for.

I figured most of what we talked about wasn’t secret, but if you’re right then gross.

[personal profile] agleam 2022-06-17 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
There's a difference between it not being secret and... this.

[he makes a face before he continues on.]

I don't know. I'm not completely sure, it's - a pretty common thing to be worried about. It just strikes me as strange.

[personal profile] ashenvaliant 2022-06-17 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
If it’s not that, then we have to worry about how they knew what scared you the most. How deep did their investigations of us go?

[ … ]

The word of mouth method is less unnerving, by far.

[personal profile] agleam 2022-06-17 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
... They knew about something that happened to me back home that I hadn't told anyone yet at the time that they brought it up. So - a decent amount, at least.

[ well that makes a little prickle of something cold go down his spine. ]

I wonder if they were looking into us even before we left our first games. Information like that isn’t just stumbled across in a day, or a couple of weeks.
