Kazunari is... acceptable enough. Mildly annoying, but not a problem; he did kill, but was cured of his refraction, and assisted us after.
Marie is odd. To be blunt: her other personality continuously threatened to kill us all, people sympathetic to her insisted it was not her fault, and while she was eventually bound on a Thursday night... she was left completely alone in the room overnight, slipped her bonds, and murdered, after which the person who had tied her failed to properly check the state of those ties in the morning.
[all said in a very exasperated sort of 'this is exactly what i figured would happen' tone.]
...I suppose it is worth mentioning that at least one person whose opinion I trusted was fairly fond of her, but-- that other self remains troubling. There seems to be no way to truly keep that one at bay, that I am aware of, so I would advise remaining on your guard.
Ours did not have any books on necromancy, but it proved a fine opportunity to become better versed in history and anatomy, subjects I feel my education was lacking.
My understanding of this is a little remote, unfortunately, but I believe it is as follows. Ten thousand years ago, a catastrophe occurred on the First House. This is the planet all of humanity resided on in those ancient days. It became inhabitable; nearly the entire species died.
But in the wake of that tragedy, the Emperor Undying developed the principle of necromancy. He was able to make use of the power to perform a great miracle, a Resurrection. He returned his Lyctors and some of the population of the First House to life, and he then populated the other eight planets in the system.
However, none of the planets, on their own, are conducive to sustaining life. They are dead planets. The technology to develop colonies on those planets, to sustain life, to allow the growth of food and human reproduction, are all rooted in necromantic ability. As is our military, which defends the Emperor, based on necromantic power.

[she nods her head.]
I am glad to know this. I will remain wary of her, and will attempt to resolve any ill feelings.

[she looks absolutely delighted, wandering around immediately to look at more books.]
There was a decent library on the station as well. It is where I spent much of my time.
