[harrow is letting herself into their room with a key and immediately going to look at her belongings, sifting through the clothing and opening and immediately closing a box. she turns, stops what she's doing, and slides the box under the bed whenever thancred enters.]
[Luckily for Harrow, Thancred's already been in and out of the room again back while the Q&A session was still going on, so she's got some time to herself to explore whatever she desires before he eventually turns up again. He doesn't knock when he lets himself in, but he does stop in the doorway when he sees who's inside.]
Well, at least I've earned myself a quiet roommate. It seems we meet again...Harrowhark, was it?
I said what I intended to say. My cavalier. We are not friends, but it may nonetheless be wise for her to stay in my dormitory and not get into trouble.
[she drums her fingers against her arm, thinking.]
A cavalier is a swordsman who is assigned to the service and defense of a necromancer; it is both traditional and practical. Necromancers by nature are frail, and their abilities often are ineffective when acting alone, whereas matched pair of necromancer and cavalier can be formidable indeed.
I have never required a cavalier to be effective, but Nav is a unique talent where it comes to sword and strength, and in this way we are well matched. Given my own position, her position as my cavalier is indeed one of consequence.
[so, unfortunate news. when thancred next comes back to their room and opens the door, there is now a skull hanging in the doorway. there are a few skeletons scattered throughout the room.]
Ah, there you are. I wanted to warn you that we now have skeletons.
Yes. They are for the ambiance. It is much improved in here now.
[i should say also like the area under the bed is also just such a mess now just so many books and piles of clothes and also some more...skeleton parts.]
By the way, you got your way, complaining to Griddle. She insisted I warn you of the skeletons and I have.
...Is that what you call Nav? "Griddle"? That's rather affectionate.
[god did she point one of the skeletons so that it's staring directly at his bed from whatever corner it's propped in? fucking fuck and all seven hells.]
Yes. They make me feel more at home. And it is a comfort, to have them near, even if I cannot manipulate them as I am accustomed. Surely you will not refuse me that.
You may submit a personal touch to me for approval. I have cultivated an atmosphere in here that is conducive to my work, and I will not have the balance disturbed.
[stupid emotion week, her lip quivers a bit, which she tries to hide. it just isn't normal for her for someone to care about her well being. gideon she understands, but...]
It is strange, yes. I am not even a good roommate.
But your right to live isn't something that need be earned or proven, whatever this business of parties and drinking games might say. You simply deserve it.
[harrow is trying to avoid everyone until memshare madness stops. it worked a little bit yesterday, at least. but today she walks into the room and runs into thancred.]
Be careful - we haven't exchanged memories yet, surely the risk is great.
[too late. they drop out of the floor into the theater.]
[YEET. Or, well. What does one call a vertical yeet instead of a horizontal yeet? Something something trajectory. Anyway they've fallen into a hole, and this is getting really old.
Grimly, he dusts himself off and casts a glance at the screen.]
Whose do you suppose it will be, I wonder? Feeling particularly lucky today?
[Well. This is. Invasive, to say the least, and more than a little bit surreal, because the thing about this particular memory is Thancred is already aware of how part of it goes, or is likely to go, once he figures out what it is he's actually witnessing — and thus has to keep his expression carefully schooled, courtesy of Harrow's previous insistence that she not be discussed by anyone.]
...Why?
[Is what he says instead, not really expecting to get an answer because, well, it's Harrow.]
It's clear you weren't happy, but...what was it, that had you so miserable?

[He read the room assignment sheet, obviously.]

[memorizing profiles because getting an A in murder games is something that's both normal to want and possible to achieve.]
So it's true. We're meant to share.
[wrinkling her nose.]

[He shrugs.]
If there's someone you'd rather, I can see if their roommate is willing to make a swap. It's all the same to me.

[it sounds like it will be so, so hard for her to have to share. and when he volunteers that - ]
My cavalier is here. Hmm.

[This may or may not be bait.]

Is that really necessary?

You found these on the new island, I gather.

It isn't.
[it's a mean bully name not a cute one.]
There are many more. These are the few I could harvest for now.

[there is no bit of his soul that isn't screaming right now]
Are you saying you intend to add more of them to the room?

And if someday I should choose to add my own personal touches to the room, will I be extended the same courtesy?

[hmph. she looks frustrated, biting her lip, but not necessarily at him.]
You and Gideon talk about me. I forbid it.

[He's quiet a minute.]
I want the both of you to escape this place. Did she tell you that?
no subject
[she frowns, annoyed.]
I don't see what it is to you.

[His chest twinges. It almost shows on his face.]
If this truly is all a game, is it so strange for me to pick my winners?

It is strange, yes. I am not even a good roommate.

You've come to that conclusion on very little information.
