[it was hard to make out at first (definitely not just because i forgot about the effect), but as he looks around at the illusion of the beach, excited, it becomes more clear that his skin is emitting some kind of soft yellow glow. it pulses brighter as he smiles.]
Whoa... This is so cool! [glancing out at the ocean being simulated in the distance.] You know, I've never actually been to a beach before, I don't think. Is this place from home, or is it something you had in your last group?
[he's about to ask more, but even he can tell when someone wants to change the subject, so - he hesitates, the light coming from him glowing a bluish shade of gray for a moment, before he nods. little tracks of a darker color move down his face for a split second before they're gone.]
Oh, uh... I can show you what it was like, sure.
[he heads over and puts his hand on the panel, showing off a castle on a hillside on a bright, sunny day. there's something like a pavilion or town square down at the base of the hill filled with people in clothing that matches a vaguely medieval time period, and they all look to be happy; some of them are making or selling wares, some of them are preparing food, and some of them are just enjoying the company. children run around with simple homemade toys, laughing, as clouds roll slowly through the sky. there are houses and other buildings visible in the distance.]
[there's something maybe a bit melancholy as he looks at the sight, some of the brightness coming off him flickering a little - but that fades when he notices her smile, grinning in turn.]
If we're being honest... I didn't have the easiest time making friends when I was younger, either, so it meant a lot to get to know all of them more recently.
[said thoughtfully, with a frown, before he moves on.]
But in this case, what I'm specifically talking about - there was some stuff going on when I was a kid that meant the kingdom wasn't the safe. You know, curses, spells, evil monsters, that kind of thing. And my mom was overprotective, to say the least, so I didn't really have the opportunity to get out a lot. A few months ago, though, things got a lot safer for a while, so she backed off.
That's alright. [her voice is...not gentle, exactly, but a little understanding.] There are things I keep close as well. I do not expect you to speak on such matters if you do not feel it wise, particularly as concerns your home.

[regardless, he looks away from the water for a moment to give her a smile.]
I bet that means it was really exciting when you saw one for the first time! Did you stay in Mollymauk's world for a while?

[her home sucks it's just the planet pluto.]
I did. For a short time, before returning to my home to attend to some business.
no subject
...You don't have atmosphere? What do you mean?
[he understands very little about space. ye olde problems. anyways.]
That must have been nice, though... I hope you got to see a lot of cool things! And that whatever business it was back home went well, too.

[...]
It was alright. Perhaps you will show me your home?

[she doesn't mind talking about her home, but talking about her trip back is complicated. she'll enjoy seeing the change of pace to a town, however.]
...Oh. It's very beautiful.

Yeah, it's a nice place. Very - you know, warm. Not the weather, but...
[the feeling.]

[rupert you will actually get a soft smile out of her.]
I can see that.

[the light coming off him dims for a moment before it sputters back to life after he takes a breath.]
It's a lot emptier now than what you're seeing. Pretty sure that's why they put in the former part... Not much to lead or help, anymore.

Did something happen to it?

[a pause that drags on just long enough to become uncomfortable, before he shakes his head.]
Sorry, it's - a long story.

[quiet, again, but not any less grateful for it. after a moment, though:]
I hope you have someone to talk to about whatever it is you're keeping closer, though.

[a small nod. he'll return the courtesy of not prying even if he's curious, but after a moment, sympathetically:]
Whatever it is you're thinking of... I'm sorry it happened.
